Our Projects and Initiatives

Holywood Shared Town has undertaken a wide-ranging variety of projects in the local community.

Projects have improved the local environment, encouraged community participation and togetherness, increased local knowledge of history and provided opportunities for cultural and social engagement in the Town and surrounding areas.

Take a look below at some of our initiatives, past and present.

Friends of Ballymenoch Park

[Ongoing]

A Friends of Ballymenoch Park group arose from our Holywood Green Spaces survey and Big Tea event in March 2019.

Ballymenoch is a Green Flag Award winning park run by Ards and North Down Borough Council.

The group had just started to meet and liaise with Council officers when Covid19 lockdown started.

The plan is to ensure the park is managed in a nature friendly manner (reduced mowing, laurel removal, native tree planting, increased biodiversity) and Ards and North Down Borough Council have undertaken to provide a strategy for the Park’s management.

ANDBC are also keen to run nature activities (tree planting, nature trails) to involve the community of all ages, which Friends of Ballymenoch have agreed to help communicate.

At the Big Tea event, local community members also discussed the future and protection of other green spaces, Glenlyon and Seapark. Redburn having been covered in 2016.

There is a possibility that a Friends of Holywood Green Spaces will evolve to cover all Holywood’s parks.
